Over the past three decades, family systems approaches to practice have become essential to the understanding and treatment of individual and relational disorders. These approaches are guided by a developmental, multisystemic conceptual orientation to human problems and processes of change, attending to the family and social context of functioning and well-being. Current research evidence supports involving families in assessment and treatment (Heru 2006).
