Social-emotional skills | School connectedness | Mental health
Key social-emotional skills include self-awareness, self-regulation,
interpersonal skills, and decision making (Elias et al. 2006).
A large body of evidence links social-emotional competencies to
improved school-related attitudes (e.g., motivation, connectedness
to school), behaviors (e.g., attendance, disciplinary actions),
and performance (e.g., grades, test scores, graduation rates), as
well as to reduction in risky behaviors and improved mental health
(Zins et al. 2004).
