Ms. B, a 59-year-old, married, white administrative assistant
and mother of two grown sons, was sent to therapy by her physician
because he suspected that her weight loss, multiple vague symptomatic
complaints, and fatigue were symptoms of depression. While Ms. B
compliantly came for her first appointment, she made it very clear
that she was "quite happy"; however, she did admit
to having "some stress" in her life. Although
she was well groomed, her slumped shoulders and monotone voice made
her appear lifeless.
