The short-term complications of methamphetamine and other stimulants are due to increased sympathomimetic effects (Table 14–5). Repeated use of low doses of stimulants can result in exaggerated startle reactions, dyskinesias, and postural abnormalities (Weaver and Schnoll 1999). Toxicity may be related to additives to the designer drugs, including ketamine and LSD.
