Pregnant Opioid-Dependent Females | Patients With HIV | Patients Experiencing Pain | Adolescents
Methadone is the standard of care for the treatment of opioid addiction
during pregnancy. Given the limited availability of methadone treatment,
having another effective pharmacotherapy for the treatment of pregnant
opioid-dependent women would be useful, and buprenorphine is currently
under investigation in a large, multisite, randomized clinical trial
as a potential treatment for opioid addiction in this population.
When buprenorphine is prescribed to pregnant women for off-label
use, it is prescribed without naloxone.
