Have you ever had a drink or used drugs first thing
in the morning to steady your nerves or to get rid of a hangover (Eye-opener)?
regular CAGE questions simply omit the "or drug use/or
used drugs" phrases. In general, two or more "yes" answers indicate
the need for further evaluation. In the psychiatric setting, the
questions may also be used as a springboard to further discussion
of the role substance use plays in the patient's life, regardless
of initial patient response.
