Carbamazepine | Valproic Acid
More than 19 studies (most of which were small case series
or open trials) have evaluated the effectiveness of carbamazepine
for mania. Only recently has carbamazepine been found to be effective
(in extended-release form) for acute mania in a large, placebo-controlled
trial (Weisler et al. 2005). No large-scale trials
have compared it with other antimanic drugs.
