The chief indication for light therapy is seasonal affective
disorder (SAD) (Rosenthal et al. 1984) or, as classified
in DSM-IV (American Psychiatric Association 1994),
any form of recurrent mood disorder, with depressive episodes in
winter, to which the specifier "with seasonal pattern" applies
(Table 28–1). The evidence for the efficacy of light therapy
in SAD and other conditions is summarized in Table 28–2.
