Treating the Black Patient: Transference Questions

Abstract

This paper deals with some theoretical as well as practical problems that confront a white analyst when treating a black patient in psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapy. Basic questions about the development of transference neurosis, countertransference, techniques, and modifications in the analytic work are suggested and discussed. A clinical case is presented for illustrative purposes.
