Abstract

This paper explores the relationship between affect and cognition in normal, borderline, and psychotic child cases while proposing an hypothesis by which it may be understood. It also presents pertinent new data that further clarify the cognitive and affective status of psychotic children. Finally, it stresses the key role that imitation seems to play in the functioning of such children.
