NIH Helps Researchers Repay Education Loans

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is accepting applications from medical researchers who want help paying off their education loans.
The program provides up to $35,000 to doctoral-level individuals who devote at least 50 percent of their time to research funded by a nonprofit organization or by federal, state, or local government entities. It also provides coverage for grantees' federal and state tax liabilities. To qualify for the grants, applicants must have educational loan debts that equal or exceed 20 percent of their base salary. In addition, they must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
The NIH operates five loan-repayment programs—for researchers from disadvantaged backgrounds and for those involved in clinical research, contraception and infertility research, health disparities research, and pediatric research.
The application deadline is 5 p.m. on December 15.
