Changing Patterns in the Use of an Intake-Diagnostic-Orientation Group

Abstract

Intake-diagnostic-orientation groups in outpatient mental health clinics have developed out of necessity to provide service more rapidly to greater numbers of patients, using existing staff and facilities. Multiple therapists and patients accompanied by family members work in an orientation group which provides opportunities for several functions simultaneously: assessment, administrative, therapy, and teaching.
