Abstract

The article attempts to identify the basic mechanism of depression as implied by various clinical formulations of depression. In this context, depression appears to result from a faulty system of thinking, developed during the individual’s formative years. The depressed person perceives reality based on either absolute social moral values or distorted evaluations of his limitations and expectations.
