A Psychiatrist Moves His Office: Hindrance or Help in Psychotherapy?

Abstract

This paper describes a therapist’s experience in moving his analytically oriented psychotherapy practice from an exclusive private setting to the psychiatric floor of a busy general hospital. The ways in which different patients react to this similar experience are described and the dynamic implications discussed. A feature common to most patients is highlighted and its implications for psychotherapy generally are examined.
