Abstract

Contemporary programming in public mental health care emphasizes stabilization and maintenance of the psychiatric patient. Many object to the term, but current standards of success essentially redefine “cure” as reduced recidivism. Although contemporary programming has many positive benefits, comprehensive mental health care must consider psychological as well as behavioral standards; traditional psychotherapy can fill this gap.
