Abstract

Freud’s admonition to psychoanalysts to be like a mirror or surgeon has been excessively adhered to, so that psychotherapists have become unduly unresponsive. A host of petty restrictive practices about hours, fees, vacations, etc., has constricted therapeutic work. Ways of correcting this major problem, and thus liberating therapists, are proposed.
