Anorexia nervosa is a disorder characterized by preoccupation
with body weight and food, behavior directed toward losing weight,
peculiar patterns of handling food, weight loss, intense fear of
gaining weight, disturbance of body image, and amenorrhea. DSM-IV-TR
(American Psychiatric Association 2000a) criteria for
anorexia nervosa are included in Table 23–1.
