Deficits in the Treatment of Alcoholism and Recommendations for Correction

Abstract

Existing treatment resources for the alcoholic patient are woefully inadequate, although there are a few outposts of good treatment. A round-the-clock resources are an exceptional and rare service. A description of some of the existing models of psychiatric services for alcoholism is given, and recommendations are formulated for improvement of psychiatric services for detoxification, evaluation and diagnosis, comprehensive treatment, and rehabilitation.
