Social and Clinical Issues in Geriatric Psychiatry

Abstract

The author provides an overview of the social characteristics and problems of the aged and of the medical services that are available and the gaps therein. Among the social problems he deals with are housing, family relationships, and retirement. He describes various facilities for the care of geriatric patients, the problems in providing preventive care, and also discusses general therapeutic considerations, including the types of psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy that have been found most effective.
