Excerpt

Military forensic psychiatry is an amalgamation of three unique fields: the military, law, and psychiatry. Military and civilian legal systems share some similarities but also differ in significant ways. Common evaluations and procedures exist in both settings; however, military forensic psychiatry also encompasses evaluations and procedures not found in the civilian sector, such as courts-martial and command-directed mental health evaluations. This chapter is not intended to serve as a complete guide to military forensic psychiatry, but rather provides an overview of this distinctive field.
