Substance-related and addictive disorders are common, are often disabling, and frequently co-occur with other psychiatric and medical disorders. In this chapter, we present an overview of the disorders that result from the use of selected substances classified in 10 drug classes, as well as an overview of gambling disorder, which was added to this chapter in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th Edition (DSM-5; American Psychiatric Association 2013).
