Nominations Invited for APA Board of Trustees

Learn more & nominate yourself or a colleague by September 1, 2022.

A message from Immediate Past President Vivian B. Pender, M.D., chair of APA’s Nominating Committee:

Social change doesn’t happen until advocates get involved. I have experienced this in every part of my career, especially at APA. And, especially in this moment, our Association has the power and responsibility to change the lives of our members and the patients we treat for the better. That’s why it’s so important to seriously consider running for elected office at APA. It is a rewarding and empowering experience as you help make the choices that ultimately steer the organization.
We are best served by a Board that represents the future of our membership and the diversity of the country. If you don’t see someone like you represented on the Board of Trustees, we, and the future of psychiatry, want and need your voice.
Please consider running for one of the open Board of Trustee offices in APA’s 2023 election: president-elect; secretary; minority/underrepresented representative trustee; Area 2 and 5 trustees; and resident-fellow member trustee-elect. You may nominate yourself or a colleague; the important point is that you get involved. The deadline is Thursday, September 1.
It was an honor to serve you this past year as APA president and to lead the Board of Trustees, a group of exceptional colleagues. Turning the organization toward the social determinants of mental health was an experience I’ll never forget and a powerful moment for our future. I hope you’ll consider your own inspiration and run for office. ■
