Winners of Poster Competition for Resident/Medical Students Announced

The winners of APA’s Resident/Medical Student Poster Competition were announced at APA’s 2023 Annual Meeting. The competition is an Annual Meeting tradition that allows residents and medical students to attend the meeting, present their research, and be recognized for quality work.
The winners of APA’s 2023 poster competition are (from left) Shimrani Banik, Elizabeth Monis, M.D., Sahana Malik, M.D., Alexandra Yoon, M.D., and Ananya Roy, M.D. Behind them are (from left) Eric Williams, M.D., chair of the Annual Meeting Scientific Program Committee; Vishal Madaan, M.D., head of APA’s Division of Education; Jacques Ambrose, M.D., M.P.H., chair of the Poster Subcommittee; and Dhurv Gupta, M.D., co-chair of the Poster Subcommittee.
Eligible participants can submit abstracts for posters in five categories: Community Psychiatry, Clinical Case Studies, Curriculum Development and Education, Patient-Oriented Care and Epidemiology, and Psychosocial Research. All submitted posters are presented at APA’s Annual Meeting, and winners receive a medal and bragging rights for themselves and their institutions.

Clinical Case Studies Award

Presenter: Elizabeth Monis, M.D., of Campbell University/Cape Fear Valley Medical Center
Poster Title: Increasing Paternalism in Maternal-Fetal Rights Across the United States: A Case Report and Literature Review

Community Psychiatry Award

Presenter: Shimrani Banik of Albert Einstein College of Medicine
Poster Title: Insurance Claims Analysis Shows Healthcare Utilization and Costs Correlate With Social Determinants of Health in an Urban Population

Curriculum Development Award

Presenter: Sahana Malik, M.D., of the University of California, San Diego
Poster Title: Implementing a Holistic Review Process for Psychiatry Residency Screening and Interviews

Patient-Oriented Care Award

Presenter: Alexandra Yoon, M.D., of Children’s National Hospital
Poster Title: Reproductive Rights Landscape After the Overturn of Roe v. Wade and a Practice Framework

Psychosocial and Biomedical Award

Presenter: Ayana Roy, M.D., of Dell Medical School of the University of Texas at Austin
