APA Foundation Announces Latest Minority Mental Health Awardees

Eleven community-based organizations that raise awareness of mental illness and improve mental health services for underserved communities were selected this year—bringing the Foundation’s total to 118 awardees and $590,000 in donations.
The APA Foundation (APAF) has announced the 11 recipients of the 2024 Awards for Advancing Minority Mental Health—which this year include organizations dedicated to ending teen suicide, preventing gang-related violence, supporting Latino families in crisis, and more.

Brooks, L.C.S.W.-R, Flora Chu, L.C.S.W., and Sandra Sanchez. APAF Executive Director Rawle Andrews Jr., Esq., is at right.
With this latest group of honorees, APAF has now awarded $590,000 to 118 community-based organizations that work to raise awareness about mental illness in underserved minority communities, address cultural barriers and other access issues to mental health treatment, and directly support those in need.
“We are proud to recognize this select group of awardees for helping to advance mental health equity for our neighbors in need and their families,” said APAF Executive Director Rawle Andrews Jr., Esq. “We are meeting the moment because of the direct services and supports that these organizations are providing to our youth and their families.”
Each award includes a contribution of $5,000 for the organization and an engraved plaque. The 2024 awardees received their plaques at the Diversity Leaders and Alumni Reception at APA’s Annual Meeting this past May.
