Abstract

A treatment model is described by which psychodynamic clinicians can guide parents to become the primary change agents when their child is the identified patient. Three cases are presented where brief treatment, in which guided clinical interventions were largely carried out by the parents, led to sustained improvement in the child. Advantages of the approach and clinical issues regarding its application are discussed.
