The Importance of Balance in the Practice of Psychotherapy

Abstract

In the practice of psychotherapy it is of particular importance that a suitable balance be achieved, both in the kinds of work being done, and in outside interests and activities. Psychotherapists, who deal with the stresses and dissatisfactions of others, need to be aware of the strains that arise within the context of their work. Otherwise, such strains could readily diminish therapists’ satisfaction and, as a result, reduce effectiveness of the psychotherapy itself.
