Common Psychological Defenses Seen in the Treatment of Sexually Abused Adolescents

Abstract

This article presents a theoretical discussion of the dynamic process of psychological defenses seen in adolescents with a history of sexual abuse. The fortress of defensive structures most commonly used by the patient will be illustrated conjointly with case material. Long-term psychotherapy is often indicated to heal the extensive negative effects of earlier sexual trauma.
