Announcing Two New Initiatives for Early-Career Mental Health Professionals

Publication: American Journal of Psychotherapy
It is my pleasure to announce the American Journal of Psychotherapy’s launch of two new initiatives, helmed by Contributing Editors Lisa O’Donnell, Ph.D., L.M.S.W., and Paula Ravitz, M.D., F.R.C.P.C. The Trainee’s Perspective is a new section that will feature articles by early-stage trainees describing personal experiences of learning, conducting, and evaluating psychotherapy. We will also offer a new service, manuscript mentoring for early-career mental health professionals. This initiative will support work by early-career investigators who submit regular articles by providing a virtual mentored experience with an editorial board member. Mentorship will include feedback and guidance to strengthen the quality of submissions on the basis of initial peer review comments. We will also help participating individuals better understand scientific journals’ editorial and peer review processes.
In concert with a recently announced initiative to offer APA’s Resident and Fellow Members free access to the American Journal of Psychotherapy, these new initiatives emphasize the journal’s commitment to the next generation of psychotherapy practitioners and researchers. We encourage submissions from underrepresented minority voices who have felt silenced; our community will benefit from ensuring that these voices are heard in the journal as it strives to better represent the evolving field of psychotherapy.
We are now accepting submissions from early-career mental health professionals for these new initiatives; manuscript requirements and eligibility can be found in the Author and Reviewer Guidelines section of psychotherapy.psychiatryonline.org. Questions can be directed to Drs. O’Donnell and Ravitz by sending an e-mail to [email protected].
