I recently had the opportunity to visit my daughter’s medical school at the University of Florida during “Family Day.” We were taken on a tour of the medical school, from the anatomy dissection room to the famous Brain Institute. I spent the day talking with the faculty and students and reviewing the school’s curriculum and teaching methods.
At the end of the day, what struck me most was how similar the education my daughter is now getting at the University of Florida College of Medicine is to the one I got at St. John’s Medical College in Bangalore, India, three decades ago.
Now no one can convince me that the medical education I received as an IMG was in any way inferior to or significantly different from the medical education my U.S.-trained colleagues received.
