Terrorism Coverage

The October 5 issue of Psychiatric News arrived today, complete with yet another picture of the burning World Trade Center. The attack occurred more than a month ago, so the purpose of publishing such a painful and inflammatory picture could have been only for sensationalistic reasons. Our wounds in New York are still very fresh, and as we try to heal (and as we help others to heal amid our own pain), reprinting that horrifying image merely served to reopen them. Surely our professional organization’s official newspaper should have shown more empathy, sensitivity, and compassion for those most affected by the tragic attack.
