Annual Meeting To Feature Center for Women Psychiatrists

Women members of APA are invited to drop by the Women’s Resource Center (WRC) at APA’s 2001 annual meeting in New Orleans, where they will find materials and events of interest to them.
The WRC will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, May 7, and Tuesday, May 8, and from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9. The location of the center will be announced in a later issue and in the program book distributed at registration.
APA’s Committee on Women is planning a networking breakfast for representatives of district branch women’s committees on Monday, May 7, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. in the WRC.
Members of the Committee on Women are organizing a question-and-answer luncheon session for women on strategies for passing the ABPN examinations on Tuesday, May 8, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the WRC.
On Tuesday, May 8, the APA Women’s Mentoring Network will host a breakfast from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. in the WRC for current participants, as well as those interested in joining the network as a mentor or a mentee. Network members will give advice on how to get the most out of a mentoring relationship.
In addition to the WRC activities, scientific sessions of interest to women include the Committee on Women’s workshop titled “Putting Your Best Foot Forward: The Art of Self-Presentation,” which will be held 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, in room 273, level 2, Convention Center. In this workshop, five women psychiatrists will share tips on speaking to the media, public speaking, formatting a curriculum vitae, and preparing for a job interview. This workshop is geared especially for women medical students, residents, and early career psychiatrists.
“Balancing Career and Family” will be held Monday, May 7, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in room 273, level 2, Convention Center, and “Career Advancement for Women Psychiatrists: The Role of Mentorship” will be held Thursday, May 10, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The Caucus of Women Psychiatrists and the Association of Women Psychiatrists will hold their annual joint meeting on Monday, May 7, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided, and enrollment forms for both groups will be available.
The WRC is funded by a grant from Wyeth-Ayerst Pharmaceuticals.
