APA Honors Employee for Exemplary Work

Linda Roll, director of APA’s Office of Minority/National Affairs, poses with APA Medical Director Steven Mirin, M.D. (left), and APA President Richard Harding, M.D., after receiving the Melvin Sabshin Award at a staff recognition ceremony at APA headquarters in April. Roll was recognized for her outstanding work with APA’s minority/underrepresented components and their issues. The award, named in honor of Mirin’s predecessor, is given periodically to staff who have made extraordinary contributions to APA and demonstrate an unusually high dedication to APA and its mission over a period of years.
In nominating her for the award, APA Assembly Speaker Nada Stotland, M.D., wrote, “Linda is a quiet master of diplomacy and mediation. . .and creates an atmosphere in which informed and sensible decisions can be, and are, made. . . . Minority and underrepresented group members collectively constitute the majority of APA and a still greater majority of potential members. The ability of Linda Roll to represent and serve those constituencies is invaluable to our organization.”
