Not for Kids Only

Here are some other attractions that families can explore together in and around Philadelphia:
Valley Forge National Historical Park: Of all the places associated with America’s War for Independence, none conveys more the impression of suffering, sacrifice, and ultimate triumph than Valley Forge, located 18 miles northwest of Philadelphia. While no battles were fought here, during the winter of 1777-78 thousands of American soldiers died here nonetheless. (610) 783-0239; www.valleyforge.org/
The Betsy Ross House: Only the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall draw more visitors than the home of adored flagmaker Betsy Ross, located at 239 Arch Street, between Second and Third streets. A donation of $2 is suggested for admission. (215) 627-5343; www.ushistory.org/betsy/flaghome.html
The Lights of Liberty Show: This show shines a high-tech light on the story of American independence. The story is told through hand-painted images that are projected up to 50 feet high onto the buildings where the events actually took place more than 200 years ago. The show begins on Independence Mall at the corner of Sixth and Chestnut streets, half a block from the Liberty Bell. Show tickets are $17.76 for adults, $16 for seniors, $12 for children 6 to 12. (877) GO-2-1776; www.lightsofliberty.org/main.htm
The New Jersey State Aquarium: Located across the Delaware River, the aquarium is just minutes away from Philadelphia’s historic district by ferry, car, or public transportation. The aquarium is home to more than 5,000 fish and aquatic animals of some 800 species. Admission is $12.95 for adults and $9.95 for children 3 to 11. (856) 365-3300; www.njaquarium.org/
