Herz to Present Award Lecture at Institute

Schizophrenia researcher Marvin Herz, M.D., is the winner of the 2003 Alexander Gralnick Award.
Marvin Herz, M.D., is the 2003 recipient of the American Psychiatric Foundation’s Alexander Gralnick, M.D., Award for Research in Schizophrenia, and he will present the first lecture in connection with that award on October 30 at APA’s 2003 Institute on Psychiatric Services.
Herz is a professor emeritus of psychiatry at the University of Rochester. He was recognized for his long research career on the optimal treatment of and service delivery for severely mentally ill individuals. In his lecture, he will talk about early intervention in patients at different phases of the schizophrenia disease process.
This award was established by the Gralnick Foundation to further research in a disease in which Gralnick had a career-long professional interest. Gralnick is a 50-year life fellow in APA. He was the founder of the High Point Hospital in Rye Brook, N.Y., where he served as director until 1991 and psychiatrist-in-chief until his death in 1993.
The lecture will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. All attendees are invited to the reception that will follow immediately afterward and meet and talk informally with Herz. ▪
