More on Krauthammer Lecture

I write to protest the selection of Dr. Charles Krauthammer to deliver the William C. Menninger Memorial Convocation Lecture at APA’s 2003 annual meeting in San Francisco in May.
Dr. Krauthammer is well known as a right-wing, Republican extremist hawk, and he used the occasion to submit his captive audience of APA fellows to his polemic supporting the war policies of the Bush administration, declaring the need for the country to adopt an apocalyptic attitude against the “nuclear armed enemy” out to destroy us all.
APA did not support our country’s engagement in the Vietnam War, and we should not support our country’s unwarranted and unnecessary murderous assault against Iraq. The country’s psychosocial needs are being threatened and neglected, while our enormous wealth is squandered by the military-industrial complex, of which we were warned by President Eisenhower.
