Mental HealthWorks Sparks Interest With Corporations, DBs/SAs

Mental HealthWorks, one of APA’s newest publications, is mailed to nearly 12,000 corporate decision makers and 12,000 APA members, and the most recent issue received even wider distribution than anticipated.
Pittsburgh Plate Glass ordered 500 copies for its “team leaders”—the company wanted each supervisor to have a copy; Johnson and Johnson ordered 150 copies to give to its benefits staff; the Ohio Psychiatric Society hand-carried 50 copies to state legislators; the Houston Mental Health Association did the same; and a dozen APA members asked for multiple copies to hand out to patients. Featured articles included depression’s link to presenteeism and the loss of productive time at work, return-to-work tips for psychiatrists and employers, and programs that screen for mental illness in the workplace.
APA members who know of employers in their area offering high-quality mental health benefits or programs to their employees are asked to contact Mental HealthWorks. The newsletter is written by the Office of Healthcare Systems and Financing and published by APA and the American Psychiatric Foundation with an educational grant from Cyberonics.
If you are not on the mailing list to receive Mental HealthWorks and would like to be, call (800) 343-4671; ask for Mary Ward. Send story ideas to [email protected] or call Sandra Hass at (703) 907-8595.
