Psychiatry Training Directors Honor Outstanding Residents

Each year, the American Association of Directors of Psychiatric Residency Training (AADPRT) recognizes the accomplishments of outstanding psychiatric residents with four fellowship awards.
At its 32nd Annual Meeting in San Juan, Puerto Rico, last month, each of these residents stepped into the limelight to be commended for his or her work.

AADPRT/George Ginsberg Fellowship Award recognizes residents who demonstrate excellence in teaching. Recipients win an all-expense-paid trip to participate in the AADPRT annual meeting and a one-year subscription to Academic Psychiatry. The 2003 winners were Sonya Rasminsky, M.D., Shauna Pencer Reinblatt, M.D., Christoph Correll, M.D., Quinton E. Moss, M.D., Kim-Lan Tran Czelusta, M.D., Letitia Pinson, M.D., and Brian Tsuzaki, M.D.
AADPRT International Medical Graduate (IMG) Mentorship Program aims to promote the professional growth of promising IMGs during their residency by providing them with the opportunity to be mentored by leaders in psychiatry. Residents receive an all-expense-paid trip to participate in AADPRT’s annual meeting. The 2003 designees were Jayesh Kamath, M.D., Ph.D., Gonzalo Laje, M.D., Louai Bilal, M.D., Soo-Jeong Kim, M.D., Vadim Baram, M.D., Bengi Melton, M.D., and Vladimir Bokarius, M.D.
Peter Henderson, M.D., Memorial Paper Award recognizes the best unpublished paper on a child or adolescent psychiatry topic submitted by a psychiatry resident. The award recipient receives a $500 prize and an all-expense-paid trip to AADPRT’s annual meeting. The 2003 recipient was Alexander Kolevzon, M.D., for his paper “Familial Symptom Domains in Monozygotic Siblings With Autism.”
Frieda Fromm-Reichmann Memorial Award recognizes academic achievement by awarding the best unpublished work in the area of general psychotherapy. The recipient of this award receives $300 and an all-expense-paid trip to AADPRT’s annual meeting. The 2003 awardee was Sylvia Emmerich, M.D., for her paper “Psychiatric Treatment Among Residents in Manhattan: Evidence of Stigma.”
