Levin Appointed

Saul Levin, M.D., has been appointed president and chief executive officer of Medical Education for South African Blacks (MESAB), which is believed to be the largest private sponsor of medical education for blacks in South Africa. At the time of Levin's appointment, MESAB announced the merger of its U.S. and South African boards and the relocation of its offices to Washington, D.C.
Levin was born in South Africa and is a graduate of Witwatersrand Medical School, South Africa, and Harvard University. He served as “a special expert appointee” during the administrations of Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton.
MESAB reports that it has supported more than 600 students a year since its founding in 1985. Its mission is to “create a cadre of black health professionals who will serve their country both through leadership and in their clinical roles in their communities.” ▪
