Nominations Invited For APA Awards

APA invites nominations for the following awards. All submissions must include a letter of nomination summarizing the nominee's contributions, a one-page biographical sketch of the candidate, and any other documents to support the nomination. Nomination packets should be sent by April 30 to Bianca Blanks by mail at APA Department of Minority/National Affairs, 1000 Wilson Boulevard, Suite 1825, MS 1954, Arlington, Va. 22209-3901, or by e-mail to [email protected].
2006 George Tarjan Award is given by APA's Committee of International Medical Graduates (IMGs) to an individual who has made significant contributions to the enhancement of the integration of IMGs into American psychiatry. Individuals in the United States who graduate from medical schools abroad or individuals outside the IMG community who contributed significantly to IMG issues are eligible. Groups, institutions, and individuals may make nominations. The award winner will receive a plaque and a $500 honorarium.
2006 Kun-Po Soo Award is given by APA's Committee of Asian-American Psychiatrists to an individual who has made significant contributions toward understanding the impact and import of Asian cultural heritage in areas relevant to psychiatry. Nominees need not be Asians, Americans, psychiatrists, or APA members.
2006 Oskar Pfister Award is given by APA's Corresponding Committee on Psychiatry, Religion, and Spirituality to an outstanding contributor in the field of psychiatry and religion.
2006 Solomon Carter Fuller Award is given by the APA Committee of Black Psychiatrists to an individual who has “pioneered in an area that has benefited significantly the quality of life for black people.” This award is made possible through a grant by Bristol-Myers Squibb Company. The nomination letter should include the specific reasons for the recommendation.▪
