APA/Lilly Resident Research Award Winners Selected

Five residents were selected to receive the 2006 APA/Lilly Resident Research Award. This award, supported by an educational grant from Eli Lilly and Co., is given annually to five psychiatry residents who submit the best original, unpublished scientific paper. In addition, a $1,000 award is given to the residency program in which the resident was in training at the time the work was completed.
The check and a plaque were presented to the residents during the Convocation of Distinguished Fellows at APA's 2006 annual meeting in Toronto. Here are the names of the winners and the titles of their winning manuscripts:
Jeremy Veenstra-VanderWeele, M.D., a child fellow at the University of Illinois-Chicago, for “Transmission Disequilibrium Studies of Serotonin System Candidate Genes in Pediatric-Onset Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder”
Falk Lohoff, M.D., a fourth-year resident at the University of Pennsylvania, for “Variations in the Vesicular Monoamine Transporter 1 Gene (VMATI/SLC18A1) Are Associated With Bipolar 1 Disorder”
Fernando Goes, M.D., a fourth-year resident at Johns Hopkins University, for “Mood-Incongruent Psychotic Features in Bipolar Disorder: Familial Aggregation and Linkage to 2p11-q14 and 13q21-33”

More information on the awards is available from Nancy Delanoche, M.S., at [email protected].
