Longtime Women's Advocate Honored

Susan Ivey, M.D. (left), president of the American Medical Women's Association (AMWA), presents the 2006 Lila A. Wallis Women's Health Award to Nada Stotland, M.D., vice president of APA. Each year AMWA recognizes an individual whose lifetime achievements, mentorship, and enthusiasm for women's health, education, and research reflect the trailblazing achievements and influences in women's health exemplified by the award's namesake, a former president of AMWA.
The award was made to Stotland in recognition of her long-time advocacy for and care of women.
Stotland has devoted most of her career to the psychiatric aspects of women's reproductive health care. She is a private practitioner and a professor of psychiatry and obstetrics and gynecology at Rush Medical College in Chicago. She is also a member of the Board of Physicians for Reproductive Choice and Health and serves on the board of the National Mental Health Association. An outspoken advocate on behalf of women, she has written six books and published more than 50 articles in peer-reviewed medical journals and the public media. She also appears on such shows as the “Oprah Winfrey Show” and “Larry King Live” talking about women's mental health and related issues.
