APA to Present Awards at Convocation

APA will present three awards for outstanding work in child and adolescent psychiatry at its Convocation of Fellows at the 2008 annual meeting in Washington, D.C., in May. The Blanche F. Ittleson Research Award, the Agnes Purcell McGavin Award for Prevention, and the Agnes Purcell McGavin Award for Distinguished Career Achievement in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry are given to physicians who have made significant contributions to the field of child and adolescent psychiatry.
The Blanche F. Ittleson Research Award is presented to recognize published results of research in child and adolescent psychiatry. This research promises to be an important advance in promoting the mental health of children and adolescents. A psychiatrist or a group of psychiatric investigators either must have published this research within the previous five years or have it officially accepted for publication in the near future. The application for the Blanche F. Ittleson Award should include five copies of the published or soon-to-be-published research, a cover letter, and a curriculum vitae.
The Agnes Purcell McGavin Award for Prevention will be selected from nominations from an APA member telling how the nominee's work in research or policy has successfully promoted primary prevention of mental illness among children and adolescents. The nomination letter should describe in detail how the nominee's work has contributed to primary prevention. Five copies of the letter and the current curriculum vitae (cv) of the nominee must be included.
The Agnes Purcell McGavin Award for Distinguished Career Achievement in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry recognizes a psychiatrist who career demonstrates success in research, publications, clinical care, or policy. The nomination letter should cite how the nominee has made significant contributions to the field of child and adolescent psychiatry. The applications for this award should include five copies of a letter from an APA member and five copies of the nominee's cv.
The deadline for nominations for the McGavin and Ittleson awards is August 19. Nominations should be sent to the Office of Children's Affairs, APA, 1000 Wilson Blvd., Suite 1825, Arlington, Va., 22209.
