PsychiatryOnline Subscribers Have Access to Vital Reference Works

The subscription package available at PsychiatryOnline.com, American Psychiatric Publishing Inc.'s portal Web site, now includes two of its most popular psychiatric medication texts.
Essentials of Clinical Psychopharmacology, Second Edition, which is edited by Alan Schatzberg, M.D., and Charles Nemeroff, M.D., Ph.D., provides a synopsis and update of the most clinically relevant material from the American Psychiatric Publishing Textbook of Psychopharmacology, Third Edition. The Essentials text focuses on clinical-care aspects of psychopharmacology.
Also now available is the broad-based educational text What Your Patients Need to Know About Psychiatric Medications by Robert Hales, M.D., M.B.A., Stuart Yudofsky, M.D., and Robert Chew, Pharm.D. This book features printer-friendly medication information handouts for patients covering major psychiatric medications. Handouts answer questions patients most commonly ask about medications, including instructions on how to take them and their beneficial effects, potential side effects, and potential drug interactions. The writers present this material in clear, accessible language that is prioritized and evidence based to enhance patients' ability to use medications safely and effectively.
PsychiatryOnline.com subscriptions also provide access to other texts, including DSM-IV-TR, differential diagnostic advice, and case examples. Subscribers also have access to APA's practice guidelines (including new guidelines and revisions as soon as they are released by APA) and another popular Hales and Yudofsky title, Textbook of Clinical Psychiatry.
March brought a new benefit for subscribers: access to all previous editions of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. These historical archives document the evolution of the current psychiatric diagnostic system from DSM-I through DSM-IV-TR, including the landmark 1973 change in DSM-II that eliminated homosexuality as a mental disorder.
PsychiatryOnline.com is also a source for all issues of most APA and APPI journals, a virtual library in itself, which, in the case of the American Journal of Psychiatry, represents a collection that dates back to 1844. APA members receive substantial discounts on subscriptions.
