Residents Encouraged to Present Research at Fall Institute

Psychiatry residents will have a valuable opportunity in October to present at poster sessions and participate in activities offered for them at APA's fall Institute on Psychiatric Services.
The institute will be held in New Orleans from October 11 to 14.
If you are a resident who has research ideas or scholarly activities that you would like to share in a national forum, then you are encouraged to participate in this year's conference with a poster submission.
The institute will feature multiple poster sessions that will make it easy for residents working on research projects to present their findings to a national audience. In the past, approximately 90 percent of all poster submissions were accepted for presentation.
Poster submissions on all areas of psychiatric research are welcome. Training departments often pay for registration and/or travel if the resident is also presenting a poster.
In addition to providing an excellent opportunity for residents to learn about innovative work from around the country, the institute offers opportunities to meet other residents and interact with experts and leaders in the field. Among them are a welcoming session for residents, leadership and career development seminars, a “Meet the Experts” luncheon that allows for informal consultation with leaders in psychiatric specialties, a full-day session on working with homeless mentally ill individuals, mentoring opportunities, and clinical discussion groups in general and public psychiatry. Also, this year there will be a board preparation seminar and an opportunity to volunteer in a rehabilitation project in New Orleans.
The institute features general receptions, an Exhibit Hall with daily prize drawings, and industry-supported lunch and dinner symposia.
The poster submission deadline is June 4. Residents interested in submitting posters may do so online at<www.psych.org/IPS2007>. More information is available from Jill Gruber, associate director of the institute, by phone at (703) 907-7815 or by e-mail at [email protected].
