Members of the APA Assembly held elections last month for their key leadership positions for the next year. They chose Gary Weinstein, M.D., of Louisville, Ky., to be the next speaker-elect. Weinstein just completed a term as Assembly recorder. He outpolled R. Scott Benson, M.D., of Pensacola, Fla.
In a three-way race, members elected Bruce Hershfield, M.D., of Sparks, Md., to succeed Weinstein as Assembly recorder. He had been the Area 3 representative to the Assembly. He defeated Jo-Ellyn Ryall, M.D., of St. Louis, and Ramaswamy Viswanathan, M.D., of Brooklyn, N.Y.
New officers began their one-year terms at the close of the Assembly's three-day meeting last month in Washington, D.C. Also at that time Jeffrey Akaka, M.D., completed his term as speaker, and Ronald Burd, M.D., took over as speaker.
