Let Voters Decide

I disagree with Dr. Abraham Halpern's statement in his letter in the October 3 issue that requiring candidates for APA office to disclose all potential conflicts of interest may result in the least-qualified members running for office. When did a lack of conflicts of interest make an APA member “least qualified”?
This should be an issue decided by the majority of voters, not by a small group of individuals with a biased point of view. Let all actual or potential conflicts of interest be aired so we can make decisions with full access to information. It is up to us, the voting members, to decide which factors are important in our choice of elected officials.
Not only do I feel that disclosure is important, I also feel that our elected leaders should not have ties because this directly or indirectly impacts their abilities to provide honest services to APA. I would prefer an APA official with no other loyalties.
