APA's 2009 Annual Meeting: Golden Gate to Learning

San Francisco certainly heated up last month once more than 15,000 people showed up for APA's 2009 annual meeting. In fact, the city's typical cool was replaced with heat that tied or set records for several days.
The Bay Area's vast array of tempting attractions—and the prospect of riding historic cable cars to get to them—did not, however, keep psychiatrists away from the hundreds of scientific sessions presented in formats to fit any learning style: large lectures, full-day courses, symposia, forums, case conferences, and small, interactive workshops.
Many sessions focused on this year's theme, “Shaping Our Future: Science and Service,” which was chosen by APA President Nada Stotland, M.D., to explore the ways in which psychiatrists, through their commitment to research, education, and clinical care, can make significant strides in improving the lives of people with mental illness.
APA's next scientific meeting, the Institute on Psychiatric Services, will be held from October 8 to 11 in the most popular location for APA meetings—New York City.
