Letters to the Editor
Published Online: 16 October 2009
I appreciated reading the letters from Drs. Ethan Kass and Chester Berschling in the September 4 issue. They reinforce the awareness that most of us have regarding our sense of identity. It was oddly amusing to read the prototypic “psychopharmacologist rant” in an issue that include articles about Freud's visit to Clark, the passionate faculty at the University of Arkansas, the prevalence of personality disorders, and journalist Pete Easley's talks and writings.
Not providing psychotherapy (and psychotherapy has been found to be more cost-effective) as a psychiatrist is comparable to not operating if you're a surgeon. (Ours is a great profession to continue in.)
