I am honored to be nominated for APA trustee. During these challenging times, I want to assure you, as always, I am prepared to give my very best effort to represent Area 6 on the Board of Trustees and render my best judgment in the critical decisions facing us for the benefit of our members, our patients, and our profession.
As a member of the APA Assembly for more than 20 years, (past nominee for recorder) and working extensively on committees, legislative functions, and leadership, I am committed to promoting productive and respectful relationships with the Board at all levels, at all times. This means transparency, candor, careful analysis, and loyalty to principles underlying our profession and specialty.
My personal background in adult and child psychiatry, psychiatric education, clinical research, and extensive APA organizational experience, including special projects, leadership activities, and over three decades of private practice in the community, I believe provide the extensive preparation needed to vigorously represent all of us at the APA Board of Trustees.
Positions:
•.
Extend APA membership connection and involvement. Consider “personal” Web page for each APA member directly connected to APA for both national, local, and individual interests and organizational component participation.
•.
Continue to work for Assembly equitable representation, integration, and stream-lining of activities and functions and work toward possible APA organizational restructuring.
•.
Encourage the DSM-V work product to represent symptom and dimensional aspects of psychiatric disorders and to reflect diagnostic concerns and realities of our daily practice.
•.
Work toward a productive relationship with pharma that promotes research for new products and creates a mutually respectful relationship and dialogue with our profession. Encourage public education directed toward early detection and understanding of psychiatric disorders and treatment and discourage direct-to-consumer marketing.
•.
Encourage and promote access to care at all levels of practice. Work toward full parity and elimination of formulary restrictions and encourage creative and effective models of integration with primary care.
Thank you sincerely for your support. I feel ardently about the issues concerning our profession, APA, our patients, and our communities. I believe I can make a difference representing you and working together toward our goals. I hope I can count on your vote.
I look forward to this opportunity and would be glad to answer questions. (My e-mail is
