Gulf Oil Spill Session

The mental health implications of the Gulf oil spill will be discussed at APA's 2010 Institute on Psychiatric Services. It will be led by Howard Osofsky, M.D., Ph.D.
Presenters will focus on current mental health symptoms, likely symptoms in the future, and efforts to address symptoms and build individual and community resilience. Community leaders fear that the problems being seen now are just the “tip of the iceberg”—that when responder employment is unavailable, individuals will experience more depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and personal and family conflict.
